Sikkim is a popular tourist destination in Northeast India. History of Sikkim:



The name Sikkim was founded by the Namgyal family in the 17th century. It was ruled by Buddhist priest-kings known as Chogyal. In 1975, after the Indian Army took over the city of Gangtok(Gangtok is one of the famous tourist places in sikkim), a referendum was held which included the kingdom and Sikkim India as the 22nd state. The small kingdom had to defend itself again and again against Nepal's attacks. Sikkim was the first defender of British India and after India's independence in 1947.



Geography & Climate:



With the altitude variation of Sikkims geographical location, it allows tropical, oceanic and alpine climate conditions in its small area of 7,096 km. Most of the inhabited areas of Sikkim experience mild climate, with summer temperatures rarely exceeding 28 °C (82 ° F).

1. Monasteries:



The strong presence of Buddhist culture can be felt everywhere in Sikkim, as well as many old and new beautiful Buddhist monasteries  which are famous tourist places in sikkim. Because here people live in harmony and breathe air. And among them are ancient Buddhist monasteries. There are more than 200 monasteries or gompas in Sikkim belonging to the Kagyupa Sect or the Nyingmapa Sect, in addition to some of the Sakyapa, Gelugpa and Bon religions.



2. Temples:



The Solophok Chardham is one of the famous Sikkim tourist places built by the state government to promote religious tourism in India. In the temple premises, along with the statue of Lord KIrateshwar, there is a magnificent incarnation of Lord Shiva. The Thakurbari Temple is an ancient temple of Sikkim located in the center of the city. It is dedicated to the great deities of Hindu culture in Gangtok.



Cuisine of Sikkim:



Sikkimese cuisine is full of flavors and is based on rice and corn. One of the reasons most dishes are made is that Sikkimese cuisine contains rice and corn in one form or another. Here are some popular dishes besides Thukpa and Momos, which are definitely worth a try.
